Still Works Consignment

A Shopify app by App Still Works

In development. Not yet in the Shopify App Store.

The coat came in on Saturday with nine other things from the same closet. The oak dresser has been on the floor for forty days and is due for its first markdown. The woman who brought in the boots wants to know whether they sold, and whether she can take it in store credit. If you sell things other people own, every item carries a share that belongs to someone, and Still Works Consignment is the part of your store that keeps count.

Saturday intake.A number on every tag.
Rows of SALE tags on hangers along a clothing rail
Day 31.Twenty percent off, on its own.
Leather boots with a price tag on a table in a resale shop, racks of clothing behind
The boots sold. Her page already says so.

Day 91.Back to the owner, or donated.

What it does

You take an item in at the counter: pick the consignor, type a title and a price, and it goes on your store and your point of sale with that person's number on it. When it sells, their share goes on their account at the split you agreed, worked out on what the customer actually paid, and a refund takes it back. Prices come down on the schedule you set. Items reaching their end date show up on a list, and the owner hears from you before they do. When you pay someone, in cash, by check, or as store credit on your own store, the app records it and their balance goes down. Nobody has to add up a spreadsheet at the end of the month.

Built for
Resale and consignment shops of every kind: clothing and children's clothing, furniture and home goods, books and records, sporting gear, bridal and formal wear, and nonprofit resale shops. Any shop that sells things other people own and owes each owner a share.
At the counter
Intake from your point of sale or the admin. Each item becomes a product with its owner's number on it and a stock count of one, so it cannot sell twice. Price tags print as a sheet from the browser.
When it sells
The owner's share is credited at the split in force that day, on the price after discounts, leaving out tax and shipping. Change a consignor's split later and past sales stay as they were. A refund takes back exactly what was refunded.
Markdowns and end dates
Your schedule, such as 20 percent off after 30 days and half off after 60. You see every item that will change before the first run, and every change afterward. Items reaching their end date come up on a list, with a note to the owner a few days before, and you mark each one returned or donated.
Payouts
A balance for every consignor. Record what you pay them in cash or by check, or pay it as store credit on your Shopify store, with a bonus if you give one for taking credit. Each payout has a receipt.
The consignor's page
Each consignor gets a private link, no password to remember, showing what is in the store, what sold and for how much, what they are owed, and what is coming up on its end date. They can look instead of calling.
Every morning
One email: what sold yesterday, what you owe, and what reaches its end date this week. On a day with nothing to report, no email.
At year end
Each consignor's total paid for the year, as a spreadsheet file for your accountant.
Pricing
Flat monthly plans, listed in the App Store. Never a percentage of your sales, on any plan.

What it is not

It does not move money. It works out what each consignor is owed and records what you pay them; paying into a bank account or through PayPal is still yours to do. It is not a marketplace for outside vendors and does not do dropshipping, booth rent for antique malls, or buying items outright. It works in your store's one currency. And it gives you each consignor's totals for the year, not tax advice.

From the studio behind Standing Orders and Classes

Still Works Consignment is the third app from the studio that makes Still Works Standing Orders and Still Works Classes. It is built the same way: small, one job, and a record you never have to check by hand.

Hear about it on launch day. Email jon@appstillworks.com with your shop's name and what you sell, and you will get one note when Still Works Consignment is ready. Nothing else. No list to unsubscribe from.

About the studio

App Still Works is one person, Jon Barney, in Salt Lake City, Utah. The person who answers your support email is the person who wrote the app, the same business day, Mountain Time. Every app is built to be small, to do one job well, and to leave your data where your store already keeps it. The privacy policy and terms are short and written to be read.
